I am used to using a traditional Welsh bakestone but mine has long gone somewhere. I have been looking for a heavy solid one to replace it and this meets that need. Nowhere near the traditional sort of weight and depth but heavier than any I have found on the market that was new. It cooks Welshcakes beautiful with even distribution of the heat. Washing afterwards simply consists of scrubbing it with a nylon brush in plain water, then rubbing with a little oil whilst it is still hot. Easy peasy!If I had to complain about anything its the deep dip in the middle. I dont know why they put this in there but perhaps its to increase the surface area available to cook on, but personally I find it really irritating. I use butter to oil the bakestone and it all pools in the middle as its not easy to distribute it around the stone as I normally would because of the deep dip. It means that the cake in the middle gets too much butter on it and goes very dark if your not quick to move it around. Still all in all a lovely replacement for my original and this afternoon I am going to try to make a bara planc bread on it.
