    It is plastic and it does give way if you put too many shoes, boots on.Easy to put together and hang up, but with majority of shoes now heavy ish especially walking boots, don't expect it to last a long time. The top hanger part that goes over the door, will start to give way by opening out or becoming wider and looser, then the entire rack is now hanging on one hanger, putting the entire weight of the shoe rack on one small plastic hanger.There is no cover to keep your shoes from any dust especially if you have pets and fur is everywhere.
